Dr. Gary Costley earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in the Department of Animal Science in 1966, 1968 and 1970, focusing on nutrition. He immediately joined the staff of the Kellogg Company in Battle Creek, MI, as director of their program in nutrition. He rose through the ranks, serving as director of nutrition, vice president for public affairs, senior vice president for corporate development and assistant to the president, senior vice president of science, executive vice president of science and technology, president of Kellogg U.S.A., and president of Kellogg North America. From Kellogg, he went to Wake Forest University where he was dean of the Babcock Graduate School of Management and taught a course in business ethics. He is currently chairman, president and CEO of International Multifoods, headquartered in Minnesota. He is a member of the American Institute of Nutrition and has served on the boards of directors of Pharmacopeia Inc., the Miller Foundation, the Sarah W. Stedman Center for Nutritional Studies at Duke University Medical School, Youth for Understanding (an international student exchange organization in Washington, D.C.), Bush Brothers, Inc., Lance, Candlewood Hotels, and the Principal Financial Group.
