During his long tenure as Livestock Extension Specialist, Dean Frischknecht became one of the most popular and well-liked personalities serving Oregon’s animal industries. Dean believed in bringing information to those who could use it, which he accomplished by organizing producer meetings at various locations around the state, at which he featured both local and national animal research experts. He was also instrumental in the organization and operation of the Wasco County Bull Grading Tour, which continues to this day. Moving with the times, Dean developed a highly-popular Computer Cow Game, which aided producers in using the then new technology to assess their herd records. Dean liked to see people receive credit for their accomplishments, and, through his efforts in Beef Improvement International, he brought recognition to outstanding Oregon cattle seed-stock producers and commercial cattlemen. He also has brought honor to distinguished agriculturists through his continuing efforts in OSU’s Diamond Pioneer Registry. Truly, Dean has formed a legacy that will continue to serve Oregon’s animal industries.
