2008 Distinguished Alumnus Award
Dave graduated from High School in Paisley, Oregon, where he spent his summers working on various cattle ranches. He received his B.S. degree in Animal Science from Oregon State University and his Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Artillery through the ROTC program in 1964. He entered active duty at Ft. Sill, OK, and upon completion of the Officers Basic Course was assigned as an instructor at the artillery and missile school. He returned to OSU in 1967 and finished a second B.S. in Business Administration before joining the Oregon Farm Bureau Federation. He was appointed Executive Vice President of the organization in 1969 and served in that capacity until 1977.
With his wife and partner, Leah, Dave established his own association management and lobbying firm in 1977. He has represented numerous agricultural clients including the Oregon Seed Council and the Oregon Dairy Farmers Association and has had significant influence on the laws and regulations affecting production agriculture. Dave and Leah breed and raise registered American Quarter Horses, primarily to compete on race tracks around the Northwest and in California. They are recognized as one of Oregon’s leading Quarter Horse breeders. Dave has been awarded the US Army Distinguished Service Award, the Oregon Seed Council’s Seedsman of the Year Award, the Oregon Seed Trade Association’s Person of the Year Award, the Oregon Dairy Farmers Association’s Distinguished Service Award, and was recognized by the Oregon Department of Agriculture for Outstanding Individual Contribution to Agriculture. He is listed in Who’s Who in the West.
