A.B. Rice was a commercial sheep rancher in Douglas County. He was a member and past president of the Oregon Sheep Growers Association, director of the American Sheep Growers Council for Oregon and Washington, and chairman of the Predator Committee for the Oregon Sheep Commission. He was chairman of Oregonians for Wildlife Conservation, a group dedicated to retaining the use of the leg-hold trap in Oregon, and of the Douglas County ASC Committee. He was past president of the Douglas County Livestock Association, past manager of the Douglas County Wool Pool, and past member of the Sheep Advisory Council.
