John Scharff was retired manager of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. John served as assistant supervisor for the U.S. Forest Service, pioneering methods of fire control, range and game management, and wise resource use. He was co-author, with E.R. Jackman, of Steens Mountain in Oregon's High Desert Country. He was a former member of local, state and federal BLM advisory boards, and of the Harney County Stock Growers' Association.
