Bob Thomas began his cattle industry career as a herdsman for the J.C. Penney Company in Missouri. He moved to Sauvie Island with his wife and started an Angus herd there. Later Bob and family moved to Baker City where they started Thomas Angus Ranch, which has become recognized as a premier Angus breeding ranch. The ranch was honored as the Beef Improvement Federation Seedstock Producer of the Year. Thomas Angus Ranch is the largest purebred Angus producer in Oregon and the 6th largest Angus producer in the U.S. Bob is Baker County Livestock Association past-president, and former director of the American Angus Association. His son, Rob, is currently on the board of directors of the American Angus Association. Bob was honored as a Diamond Pioneer in 1998.
