CHARLES E. AND CLARA MARIE ECKELMAN GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP
AMOUNT: The graduate stipend will be $12,000, to be awarded to the student for a 12-month fellowship. The fellowship may be extended for up to two years for M.S. students and up to three years for Ph.D. students. In special cases where a student bypasses the M.S. degree and goes directly into Ph.D. study, the student will be allowed two years to pass the preliminary examination and a total of five years to finish the Ph.D. These time limits hold for students awarded the fellowship in the middle of their degree program. For example, a current M.S. student awarded the fellowship after the first year of M.S. study will be allowed only one year on the fellowship to complete the M.S. The department will be awarded $2,000 and sufficient funds to cover a 1% OPE rate for a graduate assistant. QUANTITY: The number of fellowships each year will be determined by the College of Agricultural Sciences Student Advancement Office. CRITERIA: Class: Recipient should hold at least a Bachelor's degree and can be a current or prospective student. Major: Fellowship recipients must be enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences or in the Department of Microbiology with an emphasis on dairy industry. Qualified applicants in the following departments will be considered: Animal Sciences, Agricultural and Resource Economics, Food Science & Technology and Microbiology. Goal: Demonstrated desire to work in a dairy-related industry upon graduation. Other: The following criteria shall receive equal weight in the selection process: a) demonstrated exceptional scholastic performance at the bachelors or masters level; b) potential to conduct original high quality research relevant to the dairy industry; c) qualities of citizenship, leadership, character, and participation in campus and community activities. This fellowship is awarded by the Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences acting on the advice of a committee of the Heads/Chairs of the Departments of Animal Science, Agricultural and Resource Economics, Food Science and Technology and Microbiology.
